Quiz Night
January 2008
80s night
The 80s night was a
roaring success and raised in excess of £1200 for the Association. Our thanks
go to Colin and Ann Greenwood for organising the
event single handed and to Amir Khan and Saj Mahmood for donating a pair
of signed boxing gloves and a signed England cricket shirt respectively. Amir’s
gloves raised £250 and Saj’s shirt raised £150.
Other local businesses donated many great prizes, including Modec Fine Arts and Dave’s Aquarium to name but a few.
Santime Quarry has generously
donated some stone for mounting blocks in the local area and have agreed to deliver it as well for free! A great night
and we look forward to the Treasure Hunt on 1st Oct. Start time 10.30am from
Coaching House Car Park in Smithills.
BBA Membership
Thank you if you
rejoined SDBA this year. We are sorry for the delay in your membership cards
arriving but with the name change there has been a mass of paperwork and
legal stuff to sort. Because of this we would like to offer you free
membership for the rest of the year and start your membership that you have
paid for from Jan 2007 to thank you for your patience. Anyone who joins
before 1st September will also receive this offer. Renewals for the
membership will be due in January regardless of joining date in the future.
New Bridleway
The first new
bridleway in many years has opened from Fallbirch
in Lostock to Matchmoor Lane in Horwich which will cut out Chorley Old Road and Old Kiln Lane for many riders. You will need to register to use the
route and receive the key code for the locks. Members can contact BBA for
registration forms
Nellies Clough
Progress at last. BBA
and the council have finally agreed a compromise over Nellies
Clough after years of campaigning to get horses off New Chapel Lane. The new bridleway
will cut New Chapel out altogether and will eventually get riders from the
Heaton and Lostock areas into Rivington
without going on any major roads apart from to cross them. We have Marie
Jones from the Rights Of Way department to thank for her hard work in getting
this project off the ground. The new West Pennine
Bridleway Strategy is also due into effect over the next 7 years and this
will see a number of bridleways opening in the Bolton area. It is largely because of bridleway groups
(especially SDBA) that any of this has got off the ground. We expect a big
increase in members as this has come about from our hard work on your behalf
so don’t forget to renew.
Headline News
SDBA has become Bolton
Bridleways Association by popular demand!! We have changed our name after
being asked by the Council and its representatives as we are though of as
“the most organised and active of the Bridleway
groups they deal with in the area.”
Committee Meetings are
held at The Blundell Arms, Chorley Old Road starting at 8.30pm.All members
welcome to attend.
Please contact The
Rangers Office on 01204 334010 for details on any of the rides
